Meet the Team

High Street Road Animal Hospital has been providing friendly professional care for our clients and their pets since 1960.

Our health care team consists of four vets and six nurses and we are proud to provide our clients with the highest standards of veterinary care in a large modern, purpose-built Hospital in Mt Waverley.

We know that pets are a very important part of your family and we appreciate the trust that you place in us. Our experienced health care team always strives to keep your pet as healthy and happy as possible, so that you are free to enjoy your lives together.

Our Veterinarians

Rachel Dalsanto

Principal Veterinarian

Rachel graduated from Melbourne University in 1993. She has been a principal here at the hospital since 1999. Rachel has completed her certificate in practice management and also completed her Masters in Veterinary medicine and surgery. Rachel’s special interests include surgery, radiology and medicine. Outside of work, Rachel loves spending time with her husband Neil and two daughters Stephanie and Hannah. She is pictured here with Jorja her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Simmone Major

Principal Veterinarian

Simmone joined our team in July 2014. Originally from Tasmania, Simmone studied veterinary medicine at Murdoch University, graduating in 1996. After a short time practising in Tasmania as a new graduate, she moved to Melbourne with her husband. Simmone has a passion for internal medicine and loves increasing her knowledge. She has two children and a cheeky Russian Blue named Pog. She would love to find a canine companion to complete her family having recently lost her beloved Dobermann Delphi. In her spare time, Simmone enjoys bike riding with her family and cheering on the Sydney Swans.

Derek Wong

Veterinarian

Derek joined the High Street Road Animal Hospital team in 2025. He graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2024. He has a particular interest in veterinary psychiatry and surgery. Outside of work, Derek enjoys photography, cooking, and bouldering, and spends his free time with his whippet, Vega.

Leilei Li

Veterinarian

Leilei joined the High Street Road Animal Hospital team in early 2026. She gew up in China and moved to Western Australia in 2000, where she later graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Murdoch University in 2024. She then relocated to Melbourne, where she now works with a particular interest in diagnostic imaging. Outside of work, Leilei enjoys exploring Melbourne’s café scene and reading. She has a beloved British Shorthair, Zhishi, who lives in China with her family.

Meet the Team at High Street Road Animal Hospital - Renae

Renae Brien

Veterinary Nurse

Renae has been part of the team since 2005. She lives with her husband Gav, their daughter Reagan, their English Staffordshire Bull Terrier Malibu and their Persian x Chinchilla cat Zeus. As a family they enjoy attending Ice Hockey games as well as supporting Carlton and Melbourne Storm.

Ellie

Veterinary Nurse

Ellie joined the team in 2022 and is currently studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Her love for all animals brought her to become a veterinary nurse, and has since developed a special passion for wildlife here at the clinic. Outside of this, Ellie loves travelling, going to the beach and camping!

Kadri

Veterinary Nurse

Kadri joined High Street Road Animal Hospital team in late 2022. She has been nursing small animals since 2016 and obtained her Certificate VI of Veterinary Nursing in 2017.

Kadri is a passionate and emphatic veterinary nurse who is dedicated to the nurture, care and support of all animals that come under veterinary care. She is committed to providing the highest level of care for our patients and their owners.

Kadri has a husband and two adorable border collies at home – Kit and Roy, that she admits are the centre of her life. She enjoys getting out into nature, gardening and crafts.
